JBL SOUNDSESSIONS
Terms and Conditions
The JBL SoundSessions Series (the “Series”) is open to full time students enrolled at a recognized historically black college or university (“HBCU”) interested in working in the music field in either production, marketing, business, technology, or engineering.
The SoundSessions Series. The Series offers students at HBCUs an opportunity to learn about the music industry in an intimate setting. Students will engage in conversations with JBL executives and speakers from the music industry offering insights and personal stories.
Students who participate and fully complete the SoundSession Series will be eligible to participate in JBL’s scholarship program and complete for academic scholarships.
Sign-ups begin on January 4, 2021. The Series is limited to 100 HBCU students, and will be chosen on a first-come, first-served basis. JBL reserves the right, in the event the Series is oversubscribed, to review the applications and profile information contained in the sign-up form. and select students it believes may be most suited to the Series. JBL may not be able to accommodate all students interested in the Series.
SoundSession events will be held on the following dates at 5:30pm PT/8:30pm ET. Students must participate in all SoundSession events to be eligible to compete in JBL’s scholarship opportunities.

Eligibility. To participate, students must be the age of majority in their state, be actively enrolled full-time and in good standing at an HBCU, have a 2.9 grade point average or better, be interested in music as a career, and be able to attend all 6 SoundSession events in the Series.
Sign-up. To sign up, students must complete the form located at jblcampus.com/HBCUSoundSessions. The events are online, attendance will be taken, and work may be assigned.
Agreement. The Series, including each SoundSession events will be recorded and may be used for publicity purposes. Students understand that their participation in the Series may be recorded and use for development and/or marketing purposes. By signing up to participate students agree to these terms, including the JBL privacy policy.
Grant of Rights. For valuable consideration herein recognized, Students also agree to irrevocably grant to JBL, any event organizers used in the SoundSession Events, their parents, affiliates, subsidiaries, licensees, agents, distributors, successors and assignees the sole, royalty free, right to record, photograph, visually identify or otherwise use, reproduce, modify and edit as desired, students’ appearance, image, likeness, photograph, voice and name (collectively, "Appearance‚") on film, video and/or audio tape, still photography and/or otherwise (collectively, the "Recording‚").
By signing up, students acknowledge and agree that JBL owns and will own the Recording, and may exhibit, distribute, transmit and/or otherwise exploit students’ Appearances and/or the Recording, edited or altered as they may see fit, in any and all media now or hereafter known or devised for any purpose including, without limitation, in advertising, marketing, promotion and/or publicity in connection with the event. The rights granted by students herein are irrevocable and granted forever and no compensation will be payable to any student at any time, and no further approvals are required by you in connection therewith. Students will have no right of consultation or approval in connection with the rights granted hereunder.
General Conditions. JBL reserves the right to cancel, suspend, and/or modify the Series, or any part of it, if any fraud, technical failures, or any other factor beyond JBL’s reasonable control impairs the integrity or proper functioning of the Series, as determined by JBL in its sole discretion. JBL reserves the right in its sole discretion to remove any student it finds to be engaging in hostile, inappropriate, or an unsportspersonlike or disruptive manner. JBL reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. JBL’s failure to enforce any term of these terms shall not constitute a waiver of that provision. These Rules cannot be modified or amended in any way except in a written document issued in accordance with law by a duly authorized representative of JBL.
Release and Limitations of Liability. By participating in the Series, you agree to release, discharge, defend, indemnify and hold harmless JBL, its parent, subsidiaries, affiliates, the prize providers and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, and agents (the “Released Parties”) from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Series including, but not limited to: (1) any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by JBL, printing errors, or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Series; (2) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (3) any damage to a student’s, or any other person’s property, computer system or mobile phone which is occasioned by participating in the Series; (4) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the sign-up process or the Series; (5) technical or human error which may occur in the administration of the Series or the processing of the sign-ups; or (6) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from Student’s participation in the Series.
Disputes. Student agrees that: (i) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Series, or any prizes awarded, other than those concerning the administration of the Series or the determination of the winner, shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action; (ii) any and all disputes, claims, and causes of action arising out of or connected with this Series, or any prizes awarded, shall be resolved exclusively by the United States District Court or the appropriate California State Court located in the County of Los Angeles; (iii) any and all claims, judgments, and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Series, but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (iv) under no circumstances will Student be permitted to obtain awards for, and Student hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental, and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation, and enforceability of these Rules, or the rights and obligations of the Student and Sponsor in connection with the Series, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of California, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the State of California or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of California.
